Just curious, but if Grandparents and Great Grandparents on both sides of my family were born in Rhodes, would I be eligible to apply for Greek citizenship? Or because Turkey occupied the country at the time (approx 1900) maybe not considered Greek? Their names are listed in the Jewish community's registry from the era. Also, great Uncle was there up until 1944 so would that count towards Italian ...
So, I've fallen into the rabbit hole that is Ancestry.com. But what a fall! I've found a record I've never seen before of our grandfather, Isaac Shemaria. It's the 1920 Federal Census from Los Angeles, listing his job as a "boot black" (aka shoe shiner; shoemaker) living with the Hasson family at 731 14th Street in LA. Does anyone recognize the Hasson Family named in the census that he lived with?...
